BLOG: Mac's top keys to beating the Packers

The Mac Attack
December 15, 2017 - 7:02 am

Another week, another huge game for the Panthers.  They still have a shot to win the Division and get a bye and some home games in the Playoffs.  The challenge this week is the return of Aaron Rogers to the Packers.  Here is how they can beat A-Rod and the Pack.

1) Run the ball-  The Panthers average an NFL best 194 yards per game on the ground in the last 5 games.  It is no secret how they will attack the #18th ranked GB run defense.  Expect a lot of Cam on designed runs and J-Stew up the gut.   Plus, the more running the Panthers do, the more you chew the clock and keep Rodgers off the field.

2) Hit Rodgers early and often- It usually doesn't look like it, but Rodgers is human.  So, you want to make him take some shots and start thinking about his shoulder. The Panthers are #1 in Adjusted Sack rate per Football Outsiders and they are 3rd in sacks per game.  Plus, the GB O-line has struggled. They are 30th in the NFL in sacks allowed pg.

3) Get the ball to the WRs- The Packers have 2 key CBs on the IR in Kevin King and Quintin Rollins.  Plus, it looks like another one, Davon House will miss this game as well.  That is a greast opportunity for Cam Newton to get it to guys like Funchess, Byrd and Shepherd.  The Packers are 24th in pass defense too.

4) Red zone execution- The Panthers offense has been finishing drives in the RZ of late.  In the last 4 games, they are 77 percent at scoring TDs on drives entering the Red Zone. On defense they have struggled in this area most of the year, but in the last 3 games, they are 3rd in Defense in the red zone.  If they finish drives on offense and make GB kick Fgs on defense,  the Panthers will be 10-4 on Sunday night.
