North Carolina freshman guard Coby White declared for the 2019 NBA Draft via his Twitter account.

The announcement comes just two days after fellow Tar Heel freshman Nassir Little announced his decision to go pro.

Listed as 6-foot-5 and 185 pounds, White escalated through the NBA Draft boards throughout his strong finish to the season and is currently ranked as the No. 10 draft prospect by ESPN.com.

NBAdraft.net has White being drafted as high as No. 5.

The departure of White leaves the Tar Heels without their top five leading scorers from this past season, as Cam Johnson, Luke Maye and Kenny Williams have graduated.

White, UNC’s second-leading scorer this season, became one of the nation’s best freshman, averaging 16.1 points per game and 4.1 assists.

White became the first UNC freshman ever to score 30 or more points three times in a season. He finished fifth all-time in points scored by a Tar Heel freshman (552) and broke Rashad McCants’ record (72) of most 3-pointers made in a season by a freshman with 82.

“I just loved every minute of coaching Coby,” UNC head coach Roy Williams said. “He committed to us prior to his junior year, so even though he played one season as a Tar Heel, we’ve known his family for a long time. It’s been an honor to have gotten to know them.

White was named to the ACC All-Freshmen Team and was named ACC Freshman of the Week five times. The only Tar Heels to surpass that number were Tyler Hansbrough, Brandan Wright and Sam Perkins.

In 2017, White’s father died from cancer, becoming an even bigger motivating factor for White.

“His father told me he wanted his son to play for me, which is one of the neatest compliments I’ve ever been given,” Williams said. “Coby not only played for our team and for himself, but he played to make his father proud, and he certainly has accomplished that.”
