The Carolina Panthers are reportedly finalizing a deal to sign quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to a three-year, $63 million deal.

The deal includes $33 million guaranteed with $24 million due in the first year that includes a $15 million signing bonus, $17 million in year two and $20 million in year three.

The news comes shortly after the Panthers announced that they allowed long-time franchise quarterback Cam Newton to seek a trade.

Bridgewater, 27, spent the last two seasons with the New Orleans Saints as Drew Brees' backup.

He started five games in 2019 with Brees injured and went 5-0. He threw for 1,384 yards, nine touchdowns, two interceptions and completed 68 percent of his passes.

Bridgewater was drafted out of Louisville in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings and showed promise in his first two years in the league.

However, during a practice in August 2016, Bridgewater suffered a non-contact ACL tear and suffered other structural damage. He missed the next 15 months due to the injury and signed a one-year contract with the New York Jets in 2018.

Bridgewater was traded by the Jets to New Orleans before the 2018 season where he backed up Drew Brees.

Bridgewater started the Saints' 2018 season finale versus the Panthers and he completed 14 of 22 passes for 118 yards and threw a touchdown and interceptions in a loss.

As a rookie, Bridgewater had the highest completion percentage in a single game by a rookie quarterback with at least 40 attempts and he started all 16 games as a sophomore, throwing for 3,231 yards and 14 touchdowns. Bridgewater previously worked one season in New Orleans with Joe Brady, who is now Carolina's offensive coordinator.
