The Carolina Panthers have drafted Baylor defensive tackle Bravvion Roy with the 184th pick (Round 6, Pick 5) in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Roy is the sixth-straight defensive player the Panthers have chosen this draft and second defensive tackle.

It's just the third time in franchise history (1998 and 2018) that the team has selected six defensive players in the draft.

In the seventh round they set a team record for choosing all defensive players in the draft with seven in seven picks.

"That gets me real excited," Roy said. "I already knew from the get-go that defense wins championships and knowing (Matt) Rhule, they believe that and they want to make sure that first thing's first, their defense is on lockdown and they're good."

Roy played under new head coach Matt Rhule at Baylor and finished his four-year career with 133 tackles, 19.0 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks and one forced fumble.

He was named first-team All-Big 12 in 2019 and started 28 of his 48 games with the Bears.

"My playing style is just 100 percent authentic," Roy said. "I get after the ball, I'm a straight penetrator, I can pass-rush, stop the run and I can go chase down the running back and quarterback."

Listed at 6-foot-1, 333 pounds, Roy will add more nose tackle depth and joins Carolina's first-round pick, Derrick Brown on the defensive line.

"It's gonna be some trouble for some people," Roy said. "It's just a blessing to play alongside a guy like that. His film don't lie, you see how disruptive he is and I just love the way he plays and we've got a lot in common and I can't wait to get to work with him."

New Panthers defensive coordinator Phil Snow, and assistant defensive line coach Frank Okam, both coached Roy at Baylor in the same positions under Rhule.

"You gonna see guys flying around, hard-nose defense, toughness, responsibilities, people doing what they got to do and no miss communication," Roy said. "That's just the way (Matt) Rhule runs it."
