The Carolina Panthers have selected Notre Dame cornerback Troy Pride Jr. with the seventh pick in the fourth round (113th overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Pride Jr. is a Greer, S.C. native and becomes the fourth defensive player the Panthers have selected in their first four draft picks.

Pride Jr. will join a secondary that desperately needs more talent after losing cornerback James Bradberry in free agency.

Third-year cornerback Donte Jackson and safety Tre Boston are the only two returning starters in the secondary.

Pride Jr. passed up on an offer from Clemson coming out of high school to play at Note Dame.

In four years with the Fighting Irish, Pride Jr. became a full-time starter in 2018 and only gave up five receptions of 25+ yards throughout his career.

Last season as a senior, he played in all 13 games and finished with 40 tackles, an interception and six pass breakups.

Pride Jr. showed his speed at the NFL Combine, running a 4.40 40-yard dash, ranking fifth among secondary players at the combine. He also ran track at Notre Dame.

Carolina selected Southern Illinois safety Jeremy Chinn in the second round on Friday night and signed safety Juston Burris in free agency.
