Charlotte Hornets rookie forward Miles Bridges will officially be competing in the NBA All-Star Slam Dunk Contest and point guard Kemba Walker, who was named an NBA All-Star starter last week, will be competing in the 3-Point Contest on Feb. 16, at the Spectrum Center.

Bridges, drafted 12th overall by the Los Angeles Clippers, before being traded to Charlotte, has become a high-flying force in the paint with a handful of fierce dunks throughout his first season in the league.

Also competing against Bridges will be New York Knicks guard Dennis Smith Jr., Oklahoma City Thunder forward Hamidou Diallo and Atlanta Hawks center John Collins.

"I'm excited," Bridges said. "Just watching Vince Carter, J-Rich (Jason Richardson), Aaron Gordon, Zach LaVine and those guys, I've always enjoyed the dunk contest."

While it seems all the rim-rattling dunks that Bridges has put down this season is already an audition for the contest, don't be surprised if there are some new ones up his sleeve.

"I've just been playing my game. Winning comes first. I'll start working on some stuff," Bridges said with a grin.

Since it's inaugural competition in 1984, the Charlotte Hornets/Bobcats have had six players compete in the dunk contest and no players since Gerald Wallace competed in 2010.

In addition to Wallace, Rex Chapman (1990, '91), Kendall Gill ('91), Larry Johnson ('92), Ricky Davis (2000) and Baron Davis ('01) have all competed. No Charlotte player has ever won the competition.

Chapman and Gill also competed in front of their home crowd when Charlotte hosted the All-Star game in 1991.

"It's definitely special just to have fan support," Bridges said. "It'll be great."

Listed at 6-foot-7, Bridges has a vertical leap of 40 inches and has proven to be an electrifying dunker since playing at Michigan State.

"It's not something I thought about. I knew that I was a good dunker and knew if I had some highlight dunks I could compete," Bridges said.

Walker will be competing in the 3-point contest for the second time in his career. He placed third behind Eric Gordon and Klay Thompson in the 2017 competition in New Orleans.

Walker becomes just the third Hornets player in franchise history to compete in the event multiple times.

Walker joins Dell Curry (1992 and 1994) and Glen Rice (1996, 1997, 1998) as the only multiple time participants in @hornets franchise history #Hornets30 https://t.co/WbwaENeu19

This season, Walker is currently fifth in the NBA in 3-point field goals made and fourth in 3-point attempts.

Facing off against Walker in the 3-point competition are Portland Trail Blazers guard Seth Curry and Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, both of whom are natives and sons of Hornets legend and broadcaster, Dell Curry.

Also competing are Portland Trail Blazers guards Damian Lillard, Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki, Toronto Raptors guard Danny Green, Brooklyn Nets guard Joe Harris, Milwaukee Bucks guard Khris Middleton, Sacramento Kings guard Buddy Hield, and reigning champion, Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker.
