Former Carolina Panthers star linebacker Luke Kuechly could be rejoining the team as a part of the scouting staff, according to the Panthers official website.

Kuechly, a seven-time Pro Bowler in Carolina shockingly retired in January after just eight seasons in the league.

There have been rumors since his retirement that he could remain involved with the Panthers in some type of coaching role and his passion for watching film could be a reason he joins the front office as a pro scout.

"I've had a great relationship with Luke," head coach Matt Rhule said Wednesday. "I certainly hope it works out. He's a great, great, great person."

In a pro scout role, Kuechly would be evaluating players on other NFL teams.

"If there is someone that was built for that, it's probably Luke Kuechly," Rhule said. "He's got to figure out what's right for him and since the very first day he told me he wasn't going to play my advice was to do what's best for you."

Kuechly totaled 1,092 tackles, the most in the NFL since he was drafted, during his time in the league.
