The Carolina Panthers placed defensive tackle Kawann Short on the season-ending Injured Reserve with a partially torn rotator cuff.

Short, a two-time Pro Bowler, has missed the past two games after injuring his shoulder in Week 2 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“KK has done everything he could possibly do to try to play these past two games,” general manager Marty Hurney said. "But we have made the decision that it is in the best long-term interest of KK and the team that he undergo surgery to fix his shoulder and focus on his rehab and get ready for next season.”

Short had posted four tackles in his two games played this season and has only missed two games throughout his career.

The Panthers signed defensive end Bryan Cox Jr. off of their practice squad and will now rely on defensive tackles Vernon Butler and Kyle Love to step up in Short's absence.
