Michigan State 6 foot 7, 220-pound forward Miles Bridges is heading to Charlotte.

Many expected the Charlotte Hornets to make noise during the 2018 NBA Draft on Thursday night by trading all-star Kemba Walker. They made noise but ended up keeping Kemba and getting the 20-year old Bridges after a mid-draft trade.

Charlotte traded their #11 pick, Kentucky guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to the Los Angeles Clippers for the #12 pick and two future second-round picks. The Clippers selected Bridges and sent him to Charlotte.

The trade is only the fifth time in Charlotte Hornets history that they have traded their first pick in the draft.

Bridges spent two years at Michigan State after returning to school for the 2017-18 academic year and averaged 17.0 PPG, 7.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game during his two seasons.

"He was the player we targeted," Hornets GM Mitch Kupchak told reporters at a press conference after the draft. "We had him ranked highest on our draft board."

Bridges was ranked as the #4 PF in the draft according to DraftNet.com and the #18 overall player in the 2018 draft.

"I love the city of Charlotte," Bridges told ESPN after he was drafted 12th overall by the Clippers and was traded to Charlotte. "I know a lot of guys there. I think it'll be great for me."

Later in the draft, the Hornets made a trade with the Atlanta Hawks to acquire the #34 pick guard Devonte' Graham for their 2019 and 2023 second round picks. Graham, a Raleigh native played for Kansas and was a 2018 consensus first-team All-American.

At the #45 pick, the Brooklyn Nets selected Kentucky guard Hamidou Diallo for the Charlotte Hornets, who acquired the pick in the Dwight Howard trade on Wednesday. The deal won't be official until July 6. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported shortly after the conclusion of the draft that Charlotte traded Diallo to Oklahoma City.

With the 55th pick, the Hornets selected Lithuanian forward Arnoldas Kulboka.
