Five Carolina Teams To Compete In NCAA Tournament

March Madness is finally upon us and the Carolinas will be represented by five teams in three different regions in the NCAA Tournament. In addition, the Atlantic Coast Conference has three teams seeded No. 1. The ACC only the second conference ever to do that. A full preview on the Carolina teams will be released later this week, but take a look at who made it below. 

NC State, Clemson, UNC Greensboro, Davidson and Furman all did not receive a bid despite being on the bubble. 

East Region:
No. 1 Duke (29-5): The Blue Devils are coming off an ACC Tournament title and will face the winner of the NC Central vs. North Dakota State First Four play-in game on Friday in Columbia, S.C. Duke is the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament.

No. 16 NC Central (18-15): In the tournament for the third straight year with a MEAC Tournament title, the Eagles will have play North Dakota State in the First Four on Wednesday. The winner will play No. 1 overall seed Duke.

South Region:

No. 16 Gardner-Webb (23-11): The Bull Dogs enter the tournament for the first time ever with their Big South Tournament title and will face No. 1 Virginia in Columbia on Friday.

Midwest Region: 

No. 1 North Carolina (27-6): The Tar Heels won a share of the ACC regular season title before losing to Duke in the ACC Tournament will face No. 16 Iona on Friday in Columbus, Ohio.

No. 7 Wofford (29-4): The Terriors capped off a great season with a Southern Conference title and will face No. 10 Seton Hall in Jacksonville, Fla. on Thursday.
