After canceling the 2020 season on March 12 due to the coronavirus, the XFL has informed its employees that they have all been laid off and the league has suspended all operations.

The league has yet to make any formal announcement, but multiple league employees have confirmed that they were being laid off.

According to reports from ESPN, the league has no plans to return for a 2021 season. This comes after the league had initial plans to playing a full 10-game 2021 season when the league announced the cancellation of the 2020 season.

The league was able to get in half of their 10-game regular season this year, with the Houston Roughnecks coming out as the top team in the league with a 5-0 record. If the XFL was not forced to cancel the rest of the season or suspend its season, this weekend would have been the final week of the regular season.

The XFL got started up again this year after its original inception in 2001 under the ownership of WWE promoter and executive Vince McMahon.
