A lot has been said and written about Tom Brady’s decision to leave the Patriots after 20 years to take his aging talents to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

On Monday, Brady himself did the writing as he penned a piece for The Players’ Tribune website in which he detailed what he’s feeling at the age of 42 as he embarks on a new “challenge” in his Hall of Fame career.

The long online post, which is also one big advertisement for Under Armour including the company’s current slogan in the text, describes Brady’s time in New England from arriving as an almost clueless late-round draft pick to leaving town as a living legend.

“Life is always changing, and in whatever decision you make, or direction you choose, there’s an opportunity. Choosing to leave New England, and the only team I’ve known for 20 years, to join a new football team is a great opportunity, a great change and a great challenge,” Brady writes on The Players’ Tribune.

Later Brady makes it clear that the challenge is indeed about proving something, but not to Bill Belichick, the Patriots or even his new team.

“At this point in my career, the only person I have to prove anything to is myself,” Brady writes. “Physically, I’m as capable of doing my job as I’ve ever been. Now I want to see what more I can do. I want to see how great I can be.”

“Still, I’m excited. Most of all, I’m motivated,” Brady writes. “I want to deliver for my new team, my new coaches and my new teammates. I don’t want to let anyone down. I’m going to give it everything I’ve got.

One particular paragraph Brady wrote could simultaneously be read in regards to what his new situation in Tampa Bay offers and what he may have felt he didn’t have of late in New England. It was emphatically displayed as a bolded pull-quote in the story on The Players’ Tribune website.

“They’ve welcomed me as one of their own,” Brady writes of his new team. “They want to listen to what I have to say. I’m excited to be embraced fully for what I can bring to the Bucs. In turn I’m ready to embrace fully a team that is confident in what I do — and what I bring — and is willing to go on this ride with me.”
