Tom Brady said he skipped OTAs each of the last two years for family reasons.

And based off his appearance on The Howard Stern Show Wednesday, it was maybe more serious than anyone thought -- his wife, Gisele Bundchen, was not happy with their marriage.

“At different times, like any married couple, things need to be changed and a couple of years ago we had — she didn’t feel like I was doing my part for the family," Brady said. "She felt like I would play football all season and she would take care of the house and then all of a sudden when the season ended I would be like, ‘Great, let’s get into all my other business activities. Let me get into my football training.’ And she is sitting there going, ‘When are you going to do things for the house? When are you going to take the kids to school and do that?’ That was a big part of our marriage that I had to check myself because she’s like, ‘I have goals and dreams too. … You better start taking care of things at the house.’

“So, two years ago, as it even related to football for me, I had to make a big transition in my life to say, 'I can't do all the things I wanted to do for football like I used to. I have to take care of things with my family because my family situation wasn’t great.' She wasn’t satisfied with our marriage.”

He added: “Her point was, ‘Well yeah, of course this works for you. It all works for you, but it doesn’t work for me.’ Because you can get caught up in your life where you think a relationship is great because it all works for you. The point of a relationship is it has to work for both. You better work on both because if you don’t, ultimately it is not sustainable.”

Brady said Bundchen wrote him a long letter, which he still has to this day, where she spilled out her feelings.

"It was a very heartfelt letter that she wrote it to me and I still have it," he said. "I keep it in the draw and I read it and it’s a very heartfelt letter for her to say this is where I am at in our marriage. It’s a good reminder for me that things are going to evolve and change over time. What happens and what worked for us 10 years ago won’t work for us forever because we’re growing in different ways. I am influenced by different people and situations and so is she.

"We’re not together all the time. Then when you come back together she may have moved on a feeling, opinion or thought. I may have moved on a feeling, opinion or thought and how do you figure out a way to get it together? … Maybe the benefit of playing football is there is actually an offseason. You’re not the CEO of a company where you have to work year round.”

While some said Brady skipped OTAs because he wasn't happy with Bill Belichick, it appears it actually had nothing to do with him at all and it was more about his wife.

Brady reportedly said he would attend OTAs this year, but it's easy for him to say when there is a good chance they will be cancelled due to COVID-19.
