Massachusetts is in need of medical supplies during the coronavirus and Robert Kraft is stepping in to help.
The Patriots have sent the team plane to China to pick up personal protective equipment and is reportedly expected to land at Logan Airport in Boston on Thursday.
Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker, Kraft and Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito will reportedly greet the plane when it lands before the state’s National Guard will transport the equipment to a stockpile in Marlboro.
When Baker was asked at a press conference Wednesday about protective equipment, he hinted at an update on Thursday.
"I think we're gonna have a lot more to say about gear tomorrow," Baker said Wednesday. "I'm gonna leave it at that."
"We've been working on a variety of processes and opportunities to make sure that we have the gear that we need to serve our medical community and our first responders," he continued. "I've also said that I expected to have more information on this later this week, and I do.”
Per the Wall Street Journal, the long-time Patriots owner paid $2 million to acquire 1.7 million N95 masks from China, though his charter could only fit 1.2 million on board. The others will be shipped separately with 300,000 masks going to New York state, where an alarming 83,000 coronavirus cases have already been reported. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, those supplies are expected to arrive Friday at the Javits Center in Manhattan.
