PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed during a conference call that lasted over 30 minutes on Tuesday, that two players tested positive for COVID-19.
Tomlin says it was players who were not in a Steelers facility at any time, have since recovered and “are back to work.”
Tomlin says the positive cases happened back in the spring and didn’t name the players.
Over the weekend, the University of Clemson said 25 players tested positive for coronavirus and 30 LSU players were reportedly put in isolation due to COVID-19 concerns.
Last week, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the NIAID and member of the White House's coronavirus task force, has some concerns about the 2020 NFL season since the league does not have plans to keep players in a bubble.
The NFL’s Chief Medical Officer Allen Silis responded to Fauci saying the league “We will make adjustments as necessary to meet the public health environment as we prepare to play the 2020 season as scheduled with increased protocols and safety measures for all players, personnel and attendees. We will be flexible and adaptable in this environment to adjust to the virus as needed."
NFL teams are expected to begin training camps in late July with the Steelers holding their camp at Heinz Field.
