-- Red Sox prospect Chih-Jung Liu arrived at Red Sox spring training in Florida from Taiwan last week and was immediately quarantined in a hotel room amid fears about the coronavirus. The 20-year-old posted on Facebook that he feels well and has been spending his time “watching information about the team,” weight training and reading. 

A Red Sox spokesman told the Boston Globe the team is using “an overabundance of caution” when it comes to the coronavirus. 

Liu is expected to join the team in a few days. 

-- Luis Severino announced on Tuesday he will need Tommy John surgery for his elbow injury and will be shut down for this season.The Yankees pitcher released a statement on Twitter about his decision.

Mets medical director Dr. David Altchek will perform the operation on Thursday at the Hospital For Special Surgery in New York.
