Sports rivalries run deep and unique in the New York City metro, as this is the only market with multiple teams in all five major sports – but on Wednesday, all 13 NYC-area teams showed that they have one thing in common: concern for the safety of their fans and neighbors.

At 10 a.m. on Wednesday, all 13 teams Tweeted the same co-branded image with the hashtag #MaskUpNY, promoting the city and state’s efforts to remind citizens of the benefit of wearing masks as we continue to battle the coronavirus.

The Giants, Jets, Yankees, Mets, Knicks, Nets, Rangers, Islanders, Devils, Liberty, NYC FC, Red Bulls, and Sky Blue all had different text in their Tweets, but all with the same message: Mask Up to protect yourself, and protect the community.

This virus doesn’t care where you live or what team you root for. To our fans, friends, and family on both sides of the river: stay safe, keep each other safe, wear a mask. #WeAreOne | #NJDevils pic.twitter.com/WtK9ifa0TP

Fans won’t be allowed at games or NFL training camps as sports resume, but perhaps the local teams will give cause for socially-distanced celebrations in the near future; the Yankees will open their season on Thursday with the Mets to follow on Friday, and the Nets, Rangers, and Islanders will all begin their march toward the NBA and NHL playoffs next week.
