Recent reports of Tom Brady’s future in New England have been all over the place as the GOAT prepares to hit free agency for the first time in his 20-year NFL career.

Some would be “stunned” if Brady returns to the Patriots while others expect him to do just that.

Meanwhile, at least one report indicates that New England could at least be preparing a contingency plan for life without Brady.

According to a Pro Football Network report out of the NFL Scouting Combine in Indy, the Patriots are “showing interest” in former Titans starter Marcus Mariota.

“Keep this in the back of your mind – with all the uncertainty surrounding Tom Brady, the New England Patriots are showing interest in soon to be free agent quarterback Marcus Mariota,” PFN’s Tony Pauline reports. “The former first-round pick is being courted by several teams who may have an open competition at quarterback. I’m told the Indianapolis Colts have also shown interest in Mariota – just in case.”

Mariota is a former first-round pick and Heisman winner who’s struggled for the bulk of his time in NFL in Tennessee. He was benched early last season and watched from the sidelines as Ryan Tannehill turned the Titans into a playoff team that upset Brady’s Patriots on Wild Card Weekend and made a run to the AFC title game.

The 26-year-old Mariota started 61 of 63 games played over the last five seasons in Tennessee. He’s completed 62.9-percent of his passes in the NFL with 76 touchdowns comparted to 44 interceptions for an 89.6 career passer rating.
