Kevin Durant is coming to Brooklyn, but he’ll look a bit different when he first steps onto the court for the Nets.
Durant likely won’t play at all next season due to a ruptured Achilles that he sustained in Game 5 of the NBA Finals. Still, that hasn’t dampened the excitement over his arrival from coach Kenny Atkinson and general manager Sean Marks.
“Our coaching staff has long admired Kevin’s incredible skill, resilience and tenacity,” said Atkinson. “He has already established himself as a champion and one of the best players of all-time, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome him into our program in Brooklyn.”
Marks unsurprisingly agreed about what should go down as the biggest acquisition in franchise history.
“Kevin is a champion, perennial All-Star and one of the great players of this, or any, generation,” said Marks. “Adding a player of Kevin’s caliber to our organization elevates our ability to compete with the elite teams in this league.”
Number change or not, the Nets have signed one of the greatest scorers in the history of the league, and Durant won’t be coming to Brooklyn alone. Kyrie Irving and DeAndre Jordan have also officially signed with the team, but they’ll have to manage next season without KD.
Only time will tell when Durant is able to return and finally don that No. 7, and just how good he'll be when he is healthy enough to get back on the court.
