Donald Trump made a surprise appearance on NBC Sunday afternoon during the TaylorMade Driving Relief skins game where golf returned to live television with a charity skins game between Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Rickie Fowler and Matthew Wolff.

Trump was interviewed by Mike Tirico and he made it clear he wants sports back and with large crowds.

“We want to get sports back, we miss sports,” Trump said. “We need sports in terms of the psyche of our country. And that’s what we’re doing.”

He added: “We want to get it back to where it was, we want big, big stadiums loaded with people. We don’t want to have 15,000 people watching Alabama-LSU, as an example.”

The PGA Tour will be one of the first major sports to return, as it is scheduled to hold the Charles Schwab Classic on June 11 in Fort Worth, Texas and then continue with a regular schedule from there.

"We really want to see it get back to normal,” Trump said Tirico. “So when you have all of those thousands, tens of thousands of people going to majors and going to golf tournaments, we want them to have that same experience. We don’t want them having to wear masks and be doing what we’ve been doing for the last number of months. That’s not getting back to normal.

“We want to be back to normal where you have the big crowds and they’re practically standing on top of each other and they’re enjoying themselves. Not where they’re worried. But in the meantime, they do the social distancing.”

Other sports, such as the NBA, NHL and MLB are currently working on plans for their sports to return sometime over the summer.

“We’re getting it back and it’s going to be fast," Trump said.
