NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- UFC champ Conor McGregor is retiring, he announced in a late-night tweet.
"Hey guys I’ve decided to retire from fighting," the mixed martial artist, 31, wrote. "Thank you all for the amazing memories! What a ride it’s been! Here is a picture of myself and my mother in Las Vegas post one of my World title wins! Pick the home of your dreams Mags I love you! Whatever you desire it’s yours
This isn't the first time, though, that the Irish fighter has said he is retiring.
In April 2016, McGregor tweeted, "I have decided to retire young. Thanks for the cheese. Catch ya's later."
And in March 2019, the former two-weight UFC champ tweeted, "Hey guys quick announcement, I’ve decided to retire from the sport formally known as “Mixed Martial Art” today. I wish all my old colleagues well going forward in competition. I now join my former partners on this venture, already in retirement. Proper Pina Coladas on me fellas!"
In both of those instances, McGregor was reportedly in the midst of negotiations with the UFC over his next fight, and was claining he was retiring as a negotiating ploy.
UFC president Dana White said he didn't know in advance that McGregor would be making such announced, but he's not surprised, according to Yahoo Sports,
"That’s Conor," White said. "You know how Conor works. That’s how he does things."
