Buster Posey has officially opted out of the 2020 MLB season, the catcher announced on a Friday morning Zoom call with reporters.
Posey explained the logic behind his decision:
The team issued the following statement, in the wake of the news, which had been largely expected during Posey's absence from the team's summer training camp at Oracle Park:
Baseball analyst Ryan Spaeder observed that the missed time could hurt the six-time All Star's chances for enshrinement in the Hall of Fame, though he obviously saw that what Posey prioritized was more important than baseball.
