With Kyrie Irving expected to leave Boston, it’s no secret the Celtics need to fill the starting point guard role. Terry Rozier is still an option, but he would be a step back from Irving. Kemba Walker, on the other hand, wouldn't be as much, if at all.
After reports surfaced Tuesday that the Celtics were interested in Walker, it was uncertain how realistic the possibility was. But according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, both the team and Walker are very serious.
Early Thursday morning, Wojnarowski tweeted, “The Boston Celtics have emerged as the frontrunner to sign Charlotte All-Star guard Kemba Walker once free agency opens Sunday at 6 PM ET, league sources tell ESPN.”
Wojnarowski is also reporting Walker is expected to receive an offer of $141 million over four years and that he would receive $32 million in his first year.
